What to Do When You Win

Checked your numbers on our ticket checker and found out you've won? Here's what to do next, depending on how you bought your ticket.

Online Ticket Purchases (The Lott App/Website)

Bought online through The Lott? Your winnings are handled automatically. Prizes up to $1,500 go straight into your Lott account. For bigger wins, the lottery operator will contact you to arrange a bank transfer. The best part about buying online — you can't lose your ticket since it's saved to your account.

Retail Ticket Purchases

Got a physical ticket from a newsagent? You'll need to present the actual ticket to claim. Under $1,500? Take it to any lottery outlet. Between $1,500 and $49,999? Visit a major outlet with photo ID. Over $50,000? Call the operator on 131 868 (133 777 in WA) and they'll walk you through it.

What Documents Do You Need?

  • Your winning ticket (retail purchases) or account details (online)
  • Valid photo identification (driver's licence, passport, or proof of age card)
  • Bank account details (for prizes paid by electronic transfer)
  • Tax File Number (TFN) — not required for the prize, but may be needed if investing winnings

Group and Syndicate Wins

Won with a syndicate or group entry? Each member may need to show their own ID. The operator splits the prize equally among registered members. If you're in an informal group, make sure you've got a written agreement sorted before the draw — it saves a lot of headaches. See our FAQ page for more on syndicates, or check the tax info page to know what happens after you win.

Remain Anonymous

Good news — you can stay anonymous. The Lott won't publicly identify you unless you say it's OK. If you win big, they'll ask if you want to do media stuff, but it's totally your call. Plenty of winners choose to keep things quiet, and that's completely fine.
